On this page I have tried to answer any questions you may have on a wedding cake for your special day. If you have any other questions, please send me an email at cakeinfo@limasbestcakes.com and I will answer your question and probably add it to my list of FAQs.
I have been trained as a Wedding Consultant so I can help you with many of your questions and issues on your wedding day. Please let me know if I can help you with any of those tricky details that can cause frustration for you or any member of your wedding party.
Definitely! Every bride wishes for her cake to be unique! You can make as many changes to the pictured cakes as you want, choose your own colors, piping, and flowers, or send us your own ideas. -We can recreate cakes from most photos from books and other websites as well as from magazines. Many times my recreations are better than the original cake. New ideas can come from ANY direction. And any cake can be scaled up or down based on your expected guests.
You bet! We are well known for great taste. We always get thank you notes commenting on the delicious & moist textures and the great flavorful of our cakes. We love to give samples so you can see for yourself!
That depends on how you will be displaying and serving your cake. Some questions to address include: Will it be on display for most of the evening and cut toward the end? Will some of your guest have come and gone before you cut the cake? Usually a 3 tier cake will be enough to serve those who are there toward the end of the evening. A beautiful cake can be supplemented with reception cakes that are as tasty and flavorful as your wedding cake, but can help to keep your costs under budget. Is the cake serving as dessert after a sit down dinner? For this scenario be sure you have a nice sized slice for each guest, which usually requires a larger cake.. "Dessert slices" are larger than a "reception slice" shown on the price & servings chart.
Yes! I can arrange floral designs to compliment your cake and your wedding. When you provide us with your color theme, I can assist you in selecting a beautiful array of flowers.
Most of my customers have two or three flavors! For a different variety; add a cheesecake, mousse, or tiramisu. The sky's the limit.
A minimum of 2 weeks should be allowed for your order. However, I can provide you with a custom cake with a 48 hour notice. Wedding cakes should be ordered a minimum of three weeks out to ensure I have all the tools, equipment and ingredients to create your special cake. During the extra busy months of April, May, and June, I prefer a two to three month lead time. I can only do so many cakes in a certain about of time and I want you to have the cake of your dreams.
I provide free delivery and set to all locations in the Elida-Lima-Wapakoneta area. Ask if your location is covered. There is a minimum charge for out of area delivery.
A deposit of 20% is due at the time of booking. The balance is due two weeks before your wedding date. Arrangements to accept Major credit cards are in the works.
The cost is based on the time involved, the materials involved in designing, creating, carving and finishing the cake. This may be $30 or may be as much as $250. It all depends on the detail and creativity you want for your cake.
Traditional Cakes
Wedding cakes are traditionally a white cake with elaborate white frosting, either round or square, and are tiered or stacked.
Many wedding cakes are decorated with fresh or frosting flowers or cake toppers such as figurines.
For a traditional cake, I usually create a white cake layered with raspberry filling and covered in French meringue buttercream delicately flavored with lemon and vanilla essences and decorated to reflect the style of your wedding. If you would like a different flavor of cake I will be happy to fulfill your wishes.
Modern Cake Designs
Stacked cakes are very popular.
They can be creatively decorated using:
• Fresh flowers matching the bouquet
• Fresh fruit such as strawberries
• Sugar glazed fruit or flowers
• Marzipan fruit
• White or dark chocolate decorative shapes such as hearts
Decoration of Cake
Fresh Fruit or Flowers Theme - Decorating your cake with fresh flowers or fruit can be elegant & stylish. For a simply stunning look have one single, perfect, flower on your wedding cake such as a lily or orchid.
If you decide to use fresh flowers as part of your design please consult with your florist and order the flowers you desire.
Flowers can be created out of edible candy clay to give you a completely edible work of art. Please Note: Individual candy flowers (gum paste) may run from $2 to $6 or more, each. But they are worth the extra money.
Wedding Theme
Think of your cake as a part of your wedding theme. The frosting on your cake, or the flowers with which you decorate it, can coordinate with your bridal bouquet, your bridesmaid’s dresses and your table decorations, in color and in style.
Placement and Cutting of the Cake
The wedding cake should be displayed on its own table. I recommend it be placed on a small or medium sized table with decorations to tie in your theme. Remember to consider how you'd like the table to look apart from the cake presentation.
If you are having an indoor reception the cake will be displayed as your guests arrive. They will be able to take photographs next to the cake.
If you are having an outdoor reception we will bring the cake out in time for the cake cutting after the guests have eaten the main meal.
To make you and your fiancé’s parents feel extra special serve them the first slices of wedding cake that you cut yourself, before it is taken to the kitchen to be cut and served to your guests.
Groom’s Cake
The Groom’s Cake serves as a way for the groom to have his own special part of the reception or rehearsal dinner. It is often chocolate but may be the groom’s favorite flavor & usually hints at some aspect of his personality. In general the bride orders the groom’s cake & keeps the design secret until the wedding day or rehearsal dinner. It may then be served as an additional dessert option on either occasion.
Other points to consider: How big of an impact do you want your cake to make? How large is the area where it will be displayed? Is the cake high on your priority list? Is the cake a grand centerpiece?
Please check the pricing chart for cakes sizes, and number of servings.
